Fresno Falcons Sign Former CCHL Defenseman of the Year Brandon Walker

Right-shot defenseman brings proven offensive ability, collegiate experience and time in both the SPHL and FPHL to Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Falcons have officially signed defenseman Brandon Walker for the 2026-27 season, adding an offensively gifted, right-shot blueliner with experience at the junior, collegiate and professional levels.

Walker was one of four players acquired by Fresno in the Falcons’ recent six-player trade with the Columbus River Dragons. The 24-year-old Pierrefonds, Quebec native now officially joins the Falcons after completing his first professional season, which included appearances in both the Southern Professional Hockey League and Federal Prospects Hockey League.

Known for his skating, puck movement and ability to contribute offensively from the blue line, Walker gives Fresno another defenseman capable of helping the Falcons transition quickly through the neutral zone and create scoring opportunities from the back end.

Walker made an immediate impression after joining the Athens Rock Lobsters during the 2025-26 season. In just 10 FPHL games, Walker recorded three goals and two assists for five points while posting an outstanding plus-10 rating. His production represented a strong offensive return for a defenseman and provided an early look at how effectively his skill set could translate to the professional level.

After his productive stretch with Athens, Walker was acquired by the Blue Ridge Bobcats. Blue Ridge management cited his skating and puck-moving ability as important elements of his game when announcing the move. He was later moved to the Columbus organization before becoming part of Fresno’s six-player offseason trade. Walker did not appear in a game for either Blue Ridge or Columbus.

Walker’s success with Athens followed 14 appearances in the SPHL earlier in the season. He played three games with the Peoria Rivermen and another 11 games with the Quad City Storm, recording one assist while competing against SPHL-level competition. Before joining Peoria, Walker also participated in training camp with the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Altogether, Walker’s first professional campaign featured 24 regular-season appearances between the SPHL and FPHL, giving him experience in different systems and styles of play before his move to Fresno.

Before beginning his collegiate and professional career, Walker developed into one of the most productive defensemen in the Central Canada Hockey League with the Carleton Place Canadians.

Walker joined Carleton Place during the 2021-22 season and immediately demonstrated his offensive potential, producing six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 44 games.

His breakout came during the 2022-23 campaign. Walker exploded for 21 goals and 29 assists, finishing with 50 points in 53 regular-season games. He led all CCHL defensemen in both goals and total points and was voted the league’s 2022-23 Defenseman of the Year.

His 21-goal performance was especially notable for a defenseman and showed his ability to create offense in several ways, whether joining the rush, getting shots through traffic or contributing from the point.

Walker also added one goal and one assist in five playoff games during his final junior season.

Across two seasons with Carleton Place, Walker accumulated 27 goals and 49 assists for 76 points in 97 regular-season games. In addition to winning Defenseman of the Year, he was recognized as a CCHL First Team All-Star and a member of the league’s All-Graduate Team.

His former Carleton Place coaching staff praised more than his production, highlighting Walker’s competitiveness, conditioning and ability to direct a power play from the blue line.

Walker’s résumé reflects a defenseman who is comfortable with the puck and capable of influencing the game offensively.

His junior numbers demonstrated his ability to produce over a full season, while his immediate success with Athens showed that he could continue creating offense after making the jump to professional hockey.

As a right-shot defenseman, Walker also gives Fresno additional flexibility when constructing defensive pairings and special-teams units. His experience running offense from the blue line could make him an option on the power play, while his skating and passing ability should support the Falcons’ transition game at even strength.

Walker joins a growing Fresno roster built around a combination of size, experience, speed and offensive versatility. With Walker officially under contract, the Falcons add another young player with significant upside and a history of producing from the back end.

The Fresno Falcons open their inaugural season in October.
