Falcons Sign Playmaking Forward Hugo Koch

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno Falcons have signed forward Hugo Koch for the 2026-27 season, adding one of the FPHL’s most productive young playmakers to an already deep group up front.

Koch was recently acquired by Fresno in a trade with the Blue Ridge Bobcats and now officially joins the Falcons after putting together another productive season in the Federal Prospects Hockey League.

The 23-year-old native of Göteborg, Sweden has already made a significant impact at the professional level, combining speed, vision and an aggressive forecheck with the ability to consistently create offense for his teammates.

Koch first broke into the FPHL with the Mississippi Sea Wolves during the 2023-24 season and quickly established himself as one of the league’s top young forwards.

In 48 games as a rookie, Koch recorded 25 goals and 42 assists for 67 points, averaging nearly 1.4 points per game. His strong start to his professional career earned him FPHL Rookie of the Month honors during the season along with recognition as a Continental Division Rookie All-Star.

While the production immediately stood out, Koch’s impact has never been limited to the scoresheet.

He plays with pace and puts opposing defensemen under pressure throughout the game. Koch is particularly effective on the forecheck, where his speed allows him to close quickly, force rushed decisions and create turnovers below the goal line.

Once possession changes, Koch has the vision and puck skill to turn those turnovers into scoring chances.

That ability to create offense for others has become one of the strongest parts of his game.

After his breakout rookie season, Koch earned opportunities in the SPHL with Pensacola and Macon during the 2024-25 campaign, gaining experience at the next level before returning to the FPHL.

Last season, Koch again showed how dangerous he can be when given an opportunity to play a major offensive role.

After beginning the season in Topeka, Koch eventually landed with the Biloxi Breakers and went on one of the best stretches of his professional career.

In just 17 games with Biloxi, Koch recorded five goals and 28 assists for 33 points.

His 28 assists during that stretch were a clear example of the type of player Fresno is adding. Koch can carry the puck through traffic, create time and space and consistently find teammates in scoring areas.

Across the 2025-26 FPHL season, Koch finished with 58 points in 52 games, including 49 assists.

His run in Biloxi also continued what has been an impressive stretch of production on the Mississippi Coast. Between his time with the Sea Wolves and Breakers, Koch totaled 100 points in 65 games, with 30 goals and 70 assists.

For Fresno, Koch gives the Falcons another forward capable of driving play instead of simply finishing it.

His ability to play center or wing gives the coaching staff flexibility throughout the lineup, while his forechecking and playmaking ability could make him a strong fit alongside several of Fresno’s proven scorers.

Koch can attack off the rush, create offense from below the goal line and use his speed to pressure defenders into mistakes. He also gives Fresno another player capable of playing at a high tempo, something that continues to be a focus as the Falcons build their roster.

Still only 23 years old, Koch has already been one of the FPHL’s more productive young players and has shown the ability to earn opportunities above the league.

Now he will bring that combination of speed, creativity and production to Fresno.

With Hugo Koch officially signed, the Falcons add another dangerous offensive weapon as preparations continue for the return of professional hockey to Selland Arena.
