FALCONS ADD CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE, PROVEN SCORER ALEXANDER JMAEFF

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno Falcons continue to add proven firepower and veteran experience to their inaugural roster, officially signing forward Alexander Jmaeff for the 2026-27 season.

Jmaeff, a 6-foot-2, 201-pound left-shot forward from Creston, British Columbia, brings Fresno an extensive résumé that includes a Federal Prospects Hockey League Commissioner’s Cup championship, an ACHA National Championship, multiple 30-goal seasons, experience in the Southern Professional Hockey League and several years as one of the FPHL’s established offensive threats.

The addition completes another piece of business stemming from the 2026 FPHL Expansion Draft. Fresno selected Jmaeff from the Columbus River Dragons in the fourth round with the 19th overall selection, identifying the veteran forward as an opportunity to add experience and established production to the Falcons’ new roster.

A PROVEN FPHL GOAL SCORER

Jmaeff’s professional career began with an immediate breakout.

Joining the Watertown Wolves for the 2021-22 season, Jmaeff exploded for 48 goals and 43 assists for 91 points in just 50 regular-season games. His 1.82 points-per-game pace established him immediately as one of the FPHL’s most dangerous offensive players, while his 48 goals and 91 points both ranked fifth in the league that season.

His rookie season also produced one of the strongest individual months of his career. In February 2022, Jmaeff recorded 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points across 13 games, earning FPHL Rookie of the Month honors. During that stretch, he climbed to third in league scoring at the time and produced three separate games with at least three points.

By season’s end, Jmaeff was selected to the FPHL’s Young Stars Squad, but the biggest accomplishment came in the postseason.

Watertown captured the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup, defeating the Columbus River Dragons three games to one in the championship series. Jmaeff was part of a loaded Wolves roster that finished the regular season 43-12-4 and led the league with 290 goals before completing the run with a championship.

That championship experience now heads west to Fresno.

FROM WATERTOWN TO COLUMBUS

Following his breakout season, Jmaeff was acquired by the Columbus River Dragons ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

He also earned an opportunity at the SPHL level with the Knoxville Ice Bears during the season, appearing in nine games and recording two assists. He eventually returned to Columbus, where he produced 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 33 regular-season FPHL games.

Jmaeff followed that performance with another major offensive season in 2023-24.

Appearing in 54 games for Columbus, he scored 32 goals and added 25 assists for 57 points, finishing better than a point per game. His 32 goals ranked among the highest totals on a River Dragons roster filled with veteran offensive talent.

The season further demonstrated one of the qualities that has defined Jmaeff throughout his professional career: an ability to finish.

Whether finding space around the net, creating opportunities in transition or putting himself in position to capitalize on scoring chances, Jmaeff has repeatedly shown an ability to put the puck in the net. His professional résumé includes a 48-goal season, a 32-goal season and multiple other double-digit scoring campaigns.

VETERAN LEADERSHIP

Jmaeff’s impact in Columbus eventually extended beyond the scoresheet.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, the River Dragons named Jmaeff an associate captain, placing him within the club’s leadership group alongside captain Kirk Underwood and fellow associate captains Austin Daae and Kyle Moore.

He appeared in 53 regular-season games that year, producing 15 goals and 13 assists.

Jmaeff remained with Columbus for the 2025-26 campaign and responded with another productive season, recording 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 45 games.

That combination of offensive production and leadership experience adds another dimension to Fresno’s roster construction.

As an expansion franchise prepares for its first training camp and first regular-season games, players who understand the demands of a professional season can become particularly valuable. Jmaeff has played in championship races, postseason series and high-pressure games while spending the majority of his professional career inside the FPHL.

He has also been trusted with a leadership role inside one of the league’s established organizations.

A CHAMPION BEFORE TURNING PRO

Jmaeff’s championship history began well before his professional career.

From 2015 through 2020, he played collegiate hockey for the University of Central Oklahoma in ACHA Division I.

His signature collegiate season came in 2016-17, when Jmaeff recorded 26 goals and 20 assists for 46 points in 38 games. His 26 goals led Central Oklahoma, while his 46 points tied for the team lead.

More importantly, Central Oklahoma finished the season by capturing the 2017 ACHA Division I National Championship.

Jmaeff later produced another 20-goal campaign with the Bronchos, scoring 23 goals and finishing with 38 points during the 2018-19 season.

The collegiate chapter established many of the qualities that would eventually follow Jmaeff into professional hockey: size, scoring ability, consistency and experience playing meaningful games deep into a season.

ANOTHER WEAPON FOR FRESNO

Jmaeff now joins a Fresno organization that has aggressively added accomplished players throughout the offseason.

For the Falcons, his signing provides another proven option in an increasingly deep forward group.

Jmaeff has demonstrated that he can be a primary scoring threat, reaching 48 goals during his first professional season and later surpassing the 30-goal mark again with Columbus. He has also shown an ability to remain productive as his role has evolved, complementing high-end offensive players while becoming a member of his team’s leadership group.

At 6-foot-2 and more than 200 pounds, Jmaeff also adds size to Fresno’s forward corps without sacrificing offensive ability.

That versatility could provide the Falcons with options throughout the lineup. He brings experience around skilled players, the ability to finish scoring chances and familiarity with the opponents and environments Fresno will encounter throughout its first FPHL season.

Most importantly, he knows what winning looks like.

Jmaeff has already lifted championships at both the collegiate and professional levels. He won the ACHA national title with Central Oklahoma in 2017 and reached the top of the FPHL with Watertown in 2022.

Now, the veteran forward will look to bring that experience to California.

After spending the previous several seasons as an opponent Fresno would have needed to prepare for, Alexander Jmaeff will instead wear Falcons colors when professional hockey returns to the Central Valley.

Alexander Jmaeff is officially a Fresno Falcon.
