FALCONS ACQUIRE VETERAN DEFENSEMAN NICK MAGILL-DIAZ IN THREE-TEAM TRADE

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno Falcons have added another experienced piece to their blue line, acquiring veteran defenseman Nick Magill-Diaz as part of a three-team trade involving the Twin City Thunderbirds and Oceanside HC.

As part of the transaction, Fresno receives Magill-Diaz, Twin City receives forward Justin Jamer, and Oceanside receives Future Considerations.

The move brings Fresno a proven Federal Prospects Hockey League defenseman with experience at both the FPHL and Southern Professional Hockey League levels, along with a track record of contributing offensively from the back end.

Magill-Diaz, a native of Clawson, Michigan, most recently spent the 2025-26 season with the Pee Dee IceCats, recording five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 52 regular-season games, while adding 65 penalty minutes.

His contributions went beyond the scoresheet as Magill-Diaz became an important veteran presence for an IceCats team that advanced all the way to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals during its inaugural FPHL season. He remained involved offensively deep into the postseason, assisting on a Charlie Bedard goal during the championship series against Binghamton.

For Fresno, the acquisition adds a defenseman who has already demonstrated an ability to produce significant offense at the FPHL level.

During the 2024-25 campaign with the Motor City Rockers, Magill-Diaz recorded four goals and 23 assists for 27 points in 47 games, while accumulating 91 penalty minutes. One year earlier, he enjoyed another productive season for Motor City, registering nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points in 30 games during the 2023-24 regular season.

That 2023-24 campaign also showed Magill-Diaz’s ability to contribute in key situations. With Motor City facing elimination in the Empire Division Championship against Binghamton, Magill-Diaz put a shot toward the net that was redirected for the game-tying goal with just 5.4 seconds remaining in regulation, forcing overtime.

The veteran defenseman has also tested himself at the SPHL level during stops with the Quad City Storm, Birmingham Bulls, Pensacola Ice Flyers and Macon Mayhem. Before joining Macon for the 2024-25 season, Magill-Diaz had already accumulated multiple seasons of SPHL experience, including time with Birmingham and Pensacola during 2023-24.

His offensive instincts from the blue line date back well before his professional career.

Magill-Diaz played NCAA Division III hockey at Curry College, where he totaled 33 points on 13 goals and 20 assistsduring his collegiate career. His breakout season came in 2019-20, when he established himself as one of the conference’s most productive defensemen, scoring 10 goals while finishing with 19 points and a plus-15 rating.

Now, that combination of professional experience, offensive ability and postseason experience comes to Fresno as the Falcons continue assembling their roster ahead of their inaugural 2026-27 FPHL season.

Magill-Diaz gives Fresno another experienced option on the back end who has shown he can move the puck, contribute offensively and play in high-pressure situations. His familiarity with the FPHL also provides another veteran presence as the Falcons prepare for the grind of their first professional season back at Selland Arena.

The transaction also sends Justin Jamer to Twin City. The 24-year-old forward entered the professional ranks late last season after an accomplished career at Adrian College. Jamer captained Adrian during the 2025-26 season, producing 12 goals and 30 points in 28 games before joining the Port Huron Prowlers. He finished his collegiate career with 105 points in 125 games and was a member of Adrian’s 2024 national championship team.

Jamer appeared in five games for Port Huron following his collegiate career before entering the offseason.

For the Falcons, however, the centerpiece of the deal is Magill-Diaz and the experience he adds to a Fresno roster continuing to take shape.

With multiple productive FPHL seasons, experience at the SPHL level and a recent run to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals already on his résumé, Nick Magill-Diaz is headed to the Central Valley.
